Facebook, Twitter harmful in every way!

By Olaitan Okusaga

Social Networking is Ironical in its name because it doesn’t bring people closer but creates big gaps in relationships with people who really matter the most in our life Parents and Family. Spending lumps of time sitting in front of computer screen is not going to get you friends but living with them sharing happiness and spreading the joy does that. Facebook, Twitter etc. are good but not better!

The rift sometimes expands and can’t be solved with any efforts. There are many side-effects of staying stuck to social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter etc. and five most Deadly side-effects follow this paragraph.

 Facebook can cause trouble because…

It can degrade school Performance

A research conducted in United States over several children proved that students who use Facebook, Twitter and other social networking websites excessively had a low attention span and thus score low grades. Facebook should be used constructively but not like elixir without which you can’t survive. Addiction to anything is bad, Facebook is addictive.

It can get you “fired”

Take me lightly, play some Farmville or Texas Hold ‘em Poker in the office and you will see the result. A pink slip despite of a promotion.  I know how badly you miss your relatives… i know… but during work Facebook should be avoided.
Recently, a research revealed that a more than 72% employees in every company spent 1-1.5 hours on Facebook, Twitter and other Social Networks during work.

It is bad manner to not show up
Just saying “Happy Birthday” or “Happy Marriage Anniversary” is not enough, being present with family and friends during rough conditions matters more than anything else. You might disagree but Facebook is depriving you of society and social bonding. It may seem fun but is addictive and thus ought to be used in limit.

It is unhealthy to stay up all night long

Facebook is not the right place to seek new friends that could be there for you when you need them, yes it develops connection but not the one which we need, therefore communication with real people who live in your locality, study at coaching and work in following cubicles is much more important. Leaving living God’s biggest gift for internet is not at all a good idea or decision. I think we should limit access to Facebook rather than saying that stop Facebook or “never ever use it”.

An example is one of my sisters. She loves Facebook so much that no one can ever detach her from it. Even my mum had to seize her laptop for a whole year cause of Facebook. She neither eats nor sleeps except stay on Facebook all night long. All this makes me wonder how she graduates from middle school.

It’s Dangerous to show everything!
It is good if you want to share all your data, you birthday and latest pictures with strangers, but what if…? Do you know what you are risking? … Yeah i know that Facebook has privacy setting but when hackers can get your account password in a moment how long do you think it would take them to break security? What if… by fate your name spoils on the web for something you have no idea about, it sounds crazy but you never know.

Final Conclusion:
I have no right to tell you what to do and what not to do, i can just say… as a friend that Social Networking Websites are great, Facebook is ultimate and Twitter is like your virtual world but excess of everything is bad! I don’t use it like mad men! I remember a time when i was playing more than 17 social games including Farmville and update my status even at 4 in the morning. Life is to live there are thousands of things waiting for us in the real world.

“The smile I needed”

By Olaitan Okusaga

Just this evening, I cried; the one that happens when in true pain. I’m not going to bore you with my challenges but the truth is we all have challenges. We are sometimes scared that it will never go away. I get scared, anxious, pitiful and so emotional about my challenges sometimes and at that moment, I just forget to be strong.
While I lay on my bed, in my own tears, I said to myself, ‘you tell your friends on Your Daily Quotes to be strong, you always want the best for them and you write hard to keep them inspired, why don’t you write something right now to them…just pick up your pen and let them know you are not afraid to say that sometimes you are weak and just maybe in the process you’d be strong’.
I am realising right now as I have picked up my pen to write that there is nothing wrong in breaking down or being afraid, but there is everything wrong in staying that way. No matter what we are all going through right now, as much as it is hard for me to believe and maybe hard for you to believe also, there is always and always will be a morning after dark. Our problems wont last forever so let’s not die along with them, let’s not crash in something so temporary. I believe that we will all look back one day and shed tears of fine joy because just like the popular Three Idiots Indian movie says, “All is well!”
Right now, I am in the 4th paragraph and I feel better than when I started out with the first word of this article. Do you know what? No one, I repeat, No one can truly feel it like the way you do but don’t use that as a reason to block people from trying to feel it. Allow people to be there for you. You are the wrongest person to be there for yourself when you are weak-allow people to make you laugh and forget the hurt you are temporarily passing through. There are people who truly care about you so don’t hide it all inside, it could kill you. Share it with those that care for you. I will do just that after this article.
The truth is, we are stronger, smarter and braver than whatever challenges we have. Once we realise this, the power to confront that challenge is activated. My friend, our problems will bow to us eventually. They don’t have a choice because we have a race to run, a destiny to fulfil and a purpose to accomplish. We are smart enough to convert the heat of our challenges to strength to help us run this race of life.
Hmmm…now I’m smiling.
We shall win! My friend, we shall overcome!
Again, I am smiling now and I hope you are too. I thank God I picked up my pen to write at a time it was hard for me the most. I am truly grateful and I love you guys. I know that the rest of the night will be a more relieving one for me…and for you too.
Thnx for the time to read!

Pollution

By Irina Pavlava
In recent years, we often hear and use the word "ecology", but one can hardly assume that everyone understands it in the same meaning. People understand that it means - to breathe fresh air, drink clean water, eat food without nitrates and don't glow in the dark. From ancient time the man is “the crown of nature,” the only sensible child, who in its scientific and practical activities could come closer to understanding the deepest universe problems. And at the same time, the development of industry, transportation and military technology has led to what is under the influence of human nature began to change irreversibly. We have become so strong that some of our actions have led to such disastrous consequences of global warming, greenhouse effect and climate change. Every day we have polluted our "Green planet" and this process is constantly sustained.
Pollution is not problem of only one county or nation, and a global problem. The problem of ocean pollution is a good example of damage of our environment. All the oceans and world are connected. Pollution does not stay where it were began. It spreads out from every river, creek, harbor and affects of water bodies everywhere. Many cities take tons of garbage out to sea and dump it there. The quantity of garbage that ends up in the water is incredible. Approximately five million plastic containers are thrown into the world's ocean. These include human waste and chemicals used in agriculture. Also, during the manufacturing a huge amount of polluting substances has been poured out into sewage. So the early, many beautiful rivers, on which coasts usually the cities or towns were built, has turned into a polluted rivers. However, in fact people have to use water from these rivers; consequently, it is not safe for human health.
Sometimes the oil tankers accidentally spill millions of gallons of oil into the sea. Those bear a catastrophic affect on ocean life. This waste does not disappear on the vast expanses of ocean, as some people think. Huge amount of chemicals stay in the water for long, some of them float to the shores, and affect on sea creatures, fishes, animals and humans. Many species of living organisms have died out even more of them are on the verge of extinction; and it is the man's fault.
Sometimes people do not treat nature providently. It is also the ecological problem. They leave a lot of garbage after themselves in public places (a park, woods and beaches).
Air pollution is another huge global problem.  Every day many enterprises throw out poisonous substances - waste of production into the atmosphere and destroy its ozone layer. The ozone layer helps protect the earth from the sun's rays, without this layer, most forms of life on earth, including humans, probably would not be able to live.
This video clip provides many pictures of air pollution and makes us think about our negative actions. Through this movie we understand that is terrible situation “the U.S. responsible for 30.3% of the world gases emissions, that in Asia the pollution and smog is so thick on some nights people cannot see the stars and that every year 200000 - 570000 people die from ambient air pollution.” Let’s allow our children to see the stars at night!
Pollution can have serious consequences for the people health, and also severely affects natural ecosystem. Therefore people must unite in the struggle against environmental contamination and try to solve it.  Through the sociology we learn the lesson “Your Actions make a Difference" and "Turning insights into Actions" (Creating a More Just and Sustainable World by Brett Johnson, Ross Haenfler, and Ellis Jones h.) and we know that everybody can change our society and our world. We should just do some action that can do or do not do another negative one. Lets reserve of natural resources: water, gas, electricity. We should not pollute the world around us and should start from our homes, streets, cities and countries. Then we can keep all our natural resources and riches of our planet to the descendants.

Thank you Globalization

By: Katherine Peralta

Globalization is the expansion of economic, political and social connections amongst countries; it makes countries interdependent. Due to globalization, trade, migration, diversity in cultures, travel and many more things have progressed. There is no doubt that globalization will continue to expand. How is Soccer globalization? Well, I will start off by saying that soccer is a world-wide sport.

People may come from different countries poor or wealthy, different cultures and traditional backgrounds but one thing every country or most countries have in common is the sport of soccer. It may be that sport in which players just kick a ball back and forth but it’s the sport that brings people together. It unites people from different countries and brings those new experiences and time to socialize with one another.  FIFA, Federal Internationale de Futbol association has been recognized for international tournaments but is mostly known for the World Cup that has been held since 1930 except for 1942 and 1946 due to World War II.  It is held every four years and every four years it is played in a different country. So far, it has been hosted in Argentina, Brazil, Switzerland, Sweden, Chile, United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Uruguay, South Korea and Japan, Italy, and recently this past year in South Africa.
FIFA is globalization due to the fact that it unites people from different countries; people get to learn about different cultures and every country is making money, if qualified. Currently FIFA has 208 member associations. FIFA is now also working on “a house of football” which will help in projects like making a school for football and it will create jobs. They also get money from many sponsors like Coca-Cola, Visa, Sony, MC Donalds and 13 more. So, they in fact get money from many places.  “Develop the game, touch the world, build a better future” is FIFA’s mission quote meaning they want to demonstrate the diversity in culture by making soccer the symbol of hope and integration.

Shakira's Waka Waka song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa demonstrates the diversity in soccer, bringing with it globalization in trade, languages and multiculturism.
Thanks to globalization the world has increased economic, political, and social interconnectedness and interdependence among societies. "Who would've thought that FIFA would make an impact world-wide!"

Mass Media

By Junly Chroy

Socialization [soh-shuh-luh-zey-shuhn]- the process of learning the norms of your social position.

Mass media is one of our first encounters of society. This part of socialization influences children through shows, cartoons and most importantly commercials. Socialization that comes through the form of media interpretive the children’s behaviors such as characters, images and words. Media as an agent of socialization acts upon our children but supposedly only strives to entertain. Today in society children spend more time in front of the TV rather interacting with friends and family. Media is full of powerful and seductive messages ultimately influencing values When a parent tells their children to do something and in return receives a negative outburst is it because the media contradicts what their parent's are attempting to teach their children? The power of media remains strong. Everything that is important is weakening.

Mass Media includes:
  • Television
  • Radio
  • Movies
  • Music
  • Books, magazines,etc
  • Internet

My Opinion

When children observe messages some will behave differently but most likely they will be confused. This sends a bad message to our children. Plus it is very sad because it is made in the U.S.A.

The a cartoon show Ni Hao Kai-Lan is watched by my niece regularly. It is a very cute, innocent and colorful show but I have experienced my niece picking up bad habits from the cartoon show. For example, my neice has learned how to throw tantrums and cry according to the main character in the cartoon. My sister and I were initially lost to where she was picking up this behavior until one day when we noticed similarities in the tantrum thrown by my niece and the character from the cartoon.  My niece has adapted the behaviors of Ni Hao Kai- Lan when she gets frustrated. Since then, my niece was forbidden from watching the show and as a result her behavior has improved.

Sponge bob is another children’s show but ironically it has a lot of sexual references.

Tom and Jerry too much violence.

Media is a very complex medium of dissimulating information. It has the potential to do good but also means that it can also can cause harm. In the case of my niece and her tantrums, it illustrates the tacitly we as adults must exercise when we expose kids to what might we may consider to be seemingly harmless programming. We as adults have to be careful of what we let our children watch in the media.

The Socialization Process in College for an Adult

By: Uliser Galdamez Corkery

The process that socialization takes in life courses, are childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and aging.  I think that somewhere in between adolescence and adulthood should be added another process of life, college. For many people college is not an option until they realize, without the knowledge of a technical school or college, establishing a future, and becoming an adult will be hard for them. Ones adolescence finish or drop out of high school, many of them do not continue school due to responsibilities they add in their daily lives.    Adult learners face unique challenges work, family, and the numerous responsibilities and obligations that they must juggle while pursuing a degree.
This video shows an example of how an adult decides to go back to school due to her brother being convicted of a murder he didn’t commit.  Betty AnneWaters is a single mother of two children and works a full time job and decides to go to school to prove that her brother is innocent. Her first step is to get GED and was accepted to law school whish would help her succeed in her goal. This story is based on a true event that demonstrates socialization that college is a great example that be added to the life course of society.
I relate to this video because I’m 27 years old and like many adults I struggled through life because of not having college education. I started out two years ago by attending twilight school and accomplishing my high school diploma. Now, I’m in college and moving towards accomplishing my goals. The reason why I’m in college is so that I can be an example for my children and for my family. It was hard to adapt to this environment due to my responsibilities with my two children and having to work a full time job. At the end, I know this will pay off but meanwhile I have to stick to a time schedule that will help me pursue my goals. College is an example of socialization due to the fact that one has to create a bond and relationships with professors and classmates.
In conclusion, socialization is the process through which people learn the expectations of society. Like many adults, I learned how to adapt and manage my life changes. Socialization is a learning process that everyone goes through to learn and consider new things. Having the support of peers and family is an important source of strong self esteem.  Everyone goes through the learning experience by making mistakes and learning from them. Betty Anne Waters, from the movie Conviction is a great example of how adults take a big step in changing their life course by attending college and becoming a supportive adult.

What is Socialization?

By: Subin Mathew

Socialization is the process through which people learn the expectation of society. In other words Socialization is the process by which children and adults learn from others. We begin learning from others during the early days of life; and most people continue their social learning all through life.

Through socialization, people absorb their culture customs, habits, laws, practices and means of expression. Socialization is the basic for identity how one defines oneself. Identity is both personal and social Socialization can establishes personality. Its can persons behavior, feelings, predispositions, and beliefs.

For example, This one is a planned socialization that occurs when other people take actions designed to teach or train others. Pretending the old guy is teaching he wife how to use the computer or show her how to search something in online. The point I am trying to say is this old person take the role to teach another person new things when she do not know how handle the situation.

From my personal experience I know how hard it was using the computer when I came to America first time in life. In India, students do not really need to use the computer to do the work. Such as writing an essay, or finding information on online, etc. When students have work, students write with pensile or pen, or when we need to find more information something then we use different books. But when I came to USA, things are totally different everywhere you go, you must know how to use the computer. I remember the day I sat down chair to learn how to use the computer with my cousin. He showed many impotents things that how to use the computer, how to handle situation by myself when no one is trying to help. The picture is a example how well I know about the computer. I learned by observing and hearing what my cousin say to me.

In my conclusion Socialization is the process by which children and adults learn from others. When we observing others, or listening to others we actually learning. There are many kinds of socialization. Gents/unites of socialization, media and socialization, gender socialization and gender roles, and racial socialization. But everything came down to everyday life so we can create as many good social experiences as possible. This everything actually study of behavior principles in everyday life and no one can change.

Socialization Methods

By: Elisa Ventura
Socialization is the process by which an individual learns the values, beliefs, and norms of given society. This process starts off when we are just infants. A baby is born with absolutley no knowledge, therefore it is by his/her suroundings how they learn from. There are many methods of learning good socialization, from those around the child, some of  which include these six:

Selective Exposure: It is a method that is used to control what type of influence you want the child raised around. Whether is beeing exposed to a positive influence or negative one. Of course it is best to have a positive influence, although it takes alot of work. It can be done!

Modeling: It is the second method of socialization. It means that the person beeing socialized, picks one of the people of his/her suroundings who they realy admire, and choose to be like that person.

Identification: This is a bit m more advanced then modeling. This is the process by which one learns more or lesss who they realy are and is going to become.

Possitive Reinforcement: Teaches one the different types of behaviors which are socially accepted and rewarded.

Negative Reinforcement: Teaches one, which behaviors are not accepted due to negative feedback.

Nurturance: Involves both negative and possitive reinforcement because it all depends on the feedback one gets back from another individual due to what is said.

The picture above is a good example of the modeling method. Kids always try to imitate their parents in the work field. As you see in this picture, the little boy is trying to represent his self as a proffesional just like his dad. This is the process in which helps the child who they will become in the future. It may not always follow the same foot steps, but it sure helps determine who they are.

In conclusion, all of these methods are a very important part in our lives. If we dint have any, we would not learn anything. Also we must remember that our children learn from us and despite the fact that we are not their only influence, we are the first teachers. Therefore we should try to make the best impact possible!

Culture and Socialization

By: Jessica Diaz

Culture is a way of life that humans develop and pass on from generation to generation. Socialization is the way in which we develop through interactions with others, and how to relate to other people in society. Culture and socialization can play a big part in a child’s attitude and behavior. Children watch the way that people around them behave and interact with one another and these actions influence the way that they will behave as they grow up.
Children learn from adults around them about what's right and wrong. Being a good role model is important, even if you don't have kids.  Children model their parents all the time on their thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. Their personalities are shaped by their experiences and if they experience negativity, it will affect them in some way.

Always be aware of the choices you make, and how you conduct yourself because children learn by watching and repeating everything. The point is to be careful what you show your children because they will imitate what you do and even what you say. The only way to create a better world is to teach our children about our mistakes to prevent them from happening. Children are our future and we can start to make this world a better place by teaching our children to appreciate others and ourselves.
