Poverty can be defined in many different ways.One diffinition is, poverty is the lack of essentials items-such as food, clothing , water and shelter needed for proper living. There are now over 37 million peiple in the United States that fall into this category. Poverty has effects on poor health, low level of education , and disorderly behavior.
Poverty effects poor health. Many infants born into poverty have a low birth weight. Not only are these poor infants more likely to be irritable or sickly, they are also more likely to die before their first birthday.
Poor children who don't eat a nourising breakfast will not be able to pay attention in class. Poverty can lead to low esteem, when children can't join activities their peers are involved in that cost .Schools that poverty children attend are usually in rough neighborhoods that good teacher are afraid to teach. Their classroom are usually not equipped with up to date textbooks.Nor can they have the funding for extra activities. Children in impoverished area may not have internet access , and may not perform as well on standardized test This may be due to their family not being able to afford $100 for prep book or for a course in the SATs or AP exams.
Most people believe that poor people are in the perdictiment they are because they are lazy and don't want to work. The notion is based on "Anything is possible in America." Yes anything can be possible in America, but climbing out of poverty is hard. People are not homeless in poverty by choice. It could be an illness put them where they are. Not only are most poor people able and willing to work hard, all some need is a second chance..
