A symbol of a culture can be a thing, an action or activity
as well as a person. In the case of
Osama Bin Laden, he is definitely a symbol of a culture but depend on each
individual or group of people, he could be a saint or a devil.
For most of American and people around the world who had
their relatives died in terrorist attacks that related to AL-Qaeda. He is always a devil who took many innocent
people away from their families. Osama
Bin Laden in this case is a symbol of an angry and cruelty religious in
specific and Muslim culture in general which always consider infidel people as
its enemies. For those who are Muslim and do not support his ideas, Osama Bin
Laden is not a symbol of their religious, their culture. In fact, he is a
counter culture symbol of Muslim.
In another hand, for those who support him in specific and
terrorism in general, Osama Bin Laden has become one of their saints. He is a hero among them. He was the one who brought up the idea of
sweeping all infidel people out of their holy land throughout Middle East
region. All his ideas are now dogmas for them. In this case he is more to be a
subculture symbol of Muslim.
In conclusion, Osama Bin Laden is a symbol of Muslim culture
or not all depend on the way each individual’s thinking of him and how
everything he did impact each of us. In my opinion, Osama Bin Laden is more to
be counter culture symbol of Muslim culture.
This was an interesting post, however many people automatically assume that Osama Bin Laden represents Islam. People need to know that Islam does not instruct Muslims to go out and kill innocent people. Osama Bin Laden is no hero he only represents Al-Qaeda and people who support Al-Qaeda not all Muslims. That is nothing more than a miseducation about Islam as a whole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. When people see an Arab or Muslim person, they tend to think that we are all like Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein. That is a TERRIBLE stereotype that I faced growing up and that my and that people deal with everyday of their lives. It is very hard for some people to fully accept us Arabs after 9/11. I feel as though since then, Arabs have become a minority. Islam is an extremely peaceful religion. The media and people blow it all out of perportion and make everything look 20x's worse than it really is. There are good and bad people in EVERY culture, race & religion. People need to understand that.
ReplyDeleteIs Osama Bin Laden a Saint or a Devil? I believe that is a matter of opinion. His supports would choose Saint, however, others would say Devil. What we must understand is that no one person stands for a whole culture, relegion, or race. By learning about views different then our own will help us to understand and not sterotype others. ReplyDeleteI agree with your point. You did a very good job Khanh Nguyen. Osama Bin was the leader of a very specific group who are following their own ideology. They are thinking their own way. They are not following Islam. There are some Muslim that are agree with them but they are not following the true Islam. Islam means peace so their is no reason to be kill people. In the war against terror many innocent Muslims are killed by both the extremist and by the United States. I am from Pakistan, about thirty thousand innocent civilian including women and children and about five thousand security forces have been killed after September eleven. So I mean that Osama was worst for humanity and he or his group was not not representing Muslim or Islam.
