Gender and Education

Daniel Dickenson

Gender and Education

Will there always be inequality between men and women?   Women have made many strides over the years in their fight for equality, from obtaining the right to vote, to the Title IX enactment ensuring equal money for women's sports in college.  Unfortunately, though there are some areas where there are still inequalities, such as men getting paid and promoted more than women.  There is one area, however, where women are surpassing men - education.

More women than men are going into college and graduating from college with a Bachelor's degree or other higher degree.  In fact, women even earn higher grades.  The gap is especially wide between men and women in college in lower and middle class families.  What is it that has led more women into college?  Is it because they need to work harder to achieve and surpass men in the corporate world?  Either way, men are being left behind when it comes to higher education.  Studies show that women not only perform better (have higher GPA) but they spend more time studying than their male colleagues.

Women and men have a long history of inequality.  Mostly, the inequalities are against women and in favor of men.  Recently, though, whether it is due to women being fed up and taking power for their future into their own hands, or perhaps men's superior attitude believing they do not have to try that hard to succeed, women have begun to turn the tables of injustice and inequality.  Men really need to work hard and begin to respect and ally with their female colleagues and associates if they want to succeed, as well.

Yes Daniel Dickenson I believe that more females go to college now, and most females stay in a course until the end of the semester while many males drop the course before the semester finish. for that reason, males are not the only gender who go to work because now we see females as the breadwinner of the families.most females have become independent that they don't depend on males anymore

  2. This is so true women are closing the gap between men and themselves gradauting from colleges and giving these men competition for jobs once just held my men only, such an improvement that we (women) have made over the past couple decades from just settling for housewife.

  3. I think its about time we females give men more competition. For so long we were looked down upon like we were incapabile of doing the same things they were.We have always had to put up a stronger fight to prove ourselves so im glad we are showing them we can be more than housewives.I have to agree with sheena and Lamberto it is such an improvement that i think we worked had to do and we dont depend on men anymore because we have the knowledge that we can do anything they can do.

  4. I totally agree. I am a mother of a teenage daughter who is in college and I stress to her the importance of getting a college degree and being an independent woman. It gives you choices and control over your life. Most of all you don't have to depend or wait for anyone to give you anything (a man). Education ladies is the key to success.

  5. I agree with what you are saying about there are more woman in college than man. I think that is so because, woman have to work twice as hard to get where men are at. Man on the other hand, they are the favor so they think they don’t have to work as hard to surpass the woman. But, more and more woman is graduating with Bachelor's degree or other higher degree making the man harder to get jobs. So, if men want to get back on top they have to work just as hard as their colleagues.

  6. I feel that women have to work a lot harder to be suscessful. Even when a man and women have the same educational background it is still harder for a women to get the same job as a man. More women have to go to college and get that extra degree to get a good job. Women are treated unequal compared to man wether it is in sport, wages or starting a career. Women need thoes extra degrees jus to get on top.
