Is the media to blame?

By: Queisha Morales

Media today plays a big role on how sexuality is looked at by people not being able to accept different sexuality's. There are many shows out there that show what a "Normal" family looks like, but there are many family's who are not what people consider "Normal". What is a "Normal" family any way, is it a dad, mom, and children No but there are many shows who instead of embracing  it. they make fun of it like family guy. Family Guy is a show that makes fun of different sexuality's and in the most disgusting ways. like in the clip below peter is singing a song about two cowboys.

but then there are many shows that embrace the different sexuality's like will & grace and the L word. These are shows that bring lesbian and gay issues to light. the media has come a long way because 20 years ago you would have never found a show that just focused on homosexuality. the media being more acceptable there are more and more people find its okay to be proud of your sexuality. homosexuality used to be hidden and not talked about but because of shows like will & grace and so on homosexuality is more accepted today.

shows like Family Guy make fun of sexuality and that's wrong because it does not matter if your homosexual or straight were all humans and should be treated equally. everyone's sexual orientation is not always going to be the same and that's okay. we should not judge or make fun of anyone. many people die or get killed because of there sexual orientation but I'm glad that  there are shows out there like the L word that shows that its okay to be yourself.

  1. I think more television shows should be more considerate about sexuality. Family guy really have some hidden perjudice joke about sexuality. I feel like if the television show did not hane anything positive to say then they should not say nothing at all. We should be aware of everyone's feeling when making comments about sexuality.

I don't think the media is to be blame because the media is is informed awareness center that shows you what is going on in people daily life. The sexuality of a person depends on themself and what decision they make for their future. A person can watch anything on TV and still maintain their posure and poseur and dignity.

  3. I do agree with your blog regarding sexuality in the media, Yes I do believe that sexuality has gone along way form the shows of years past. Shows like I Love Lucy, where if the camera spanned to their bedroom you always saw two separate beds, where as now sex isn't even being enclosed in a bedroom but everywhere. Society's views of sex has changed and I'm glad for the chance that all sexuality views get a chance to show themselves now. I just hope someone can tone it down just a little, I am not a sexual bully but feel ones sex life should be private. Everything doesn't need to be seen every time I cut my tv on.

  4. I think that this was a very good article written about how media makes fun of homosexuality. But I disagree with the opinion that the media discriminates against gay people and shows them as not normal. America is one of the most gay-friendly countries in the world, and in other countries gay people face much worse discrimination. In some countries especially in Africa, gay people are beaten and killed just for being gay. The family of the gay person also gets made fun of and discriminated. Even though gays are not seen as completely normal in America, they are treated much better and equally here than they are in most other parts of the world.

Is the media to blame? I would say no the media brings to light how people really feel. The reality is some people are homophobic and shows like the family guy make light of that. I'm not saying that is is right or wrong I'm saying that we all have different views and fears. Will & Grace was one of my all time favorite shows, and this show had its share of critics. I think that people should be judged on who they are and not who they sleep with. I believe we should look at peoples character above all else. Good blog.
